Hip hop music is known for breaking all boundaries and reaching people from all walks of life. So it may not surprise a hip-hop fan or enthusiast to know that a freestyle champion whose influences include UGK, Twista and Bone Thugs in Harmony, is a White boy from a small town in Louisiana.
JACK D is definitely not your average “white rapper”. Even in a day and age where following the trend is common practice, JACK D stands out from the norm. No flashy clothing, no major artist or label name to drop, No “Great White Hope” gimmicks – just honest, down to earth, and passionate about music.
Real name Jack Gaspard, JACK D’s musical journey began at the age of 13. Along with the aforementioned music legends, he was also inspired by Twiztid, Kid Rock and Insane Clown Posse. The wide range of influence is apparent in his music, which spans from the popular club bangers to a hybrid of country, rock and hip-hop.
More than 10 years after he first started writing, JACK D has grown leaps and bounds as an artist and a person. Now a husband and father of one, his lyrics not only talk about his free-spirited past and his struggle as an artist in the present, they also talk about what he hopes to bring to the music world in the future.
With the release of his first two albums, Alcohol Poisoning (2009), Still Buzzing (2010), and 7th Brand (2011), JACK D is finally making his voice heard. In 2011, he even managed to show his competitive side (with the backing of his entire hometown) by beating out 40 other rappers to take home the championship crown in the 318 Cypher. He also performed at the regional producer battle, The Track Meet.
Now that he’s shown he has what it takes locally, JACK D is preparing to take his career to the next level.
JACK D is currently pushing the release of “Must Be Famous” available on 9/11/12, which he considers it his best work to date. Each track features a different style of music and each album features a different producer. With the project, JACK D hopes to deliver a musical buffet that everyone can enjoy.
JACK D is well on his way to making his mark in the music industry. In the meantime, he is fast becoming a hometown hero and legend. Keeping his small-town principles as his foundation, he’s ready to take on his state, then his region … and eventually the world.
