It all started with an email! I was working at Indiana Business College as a Financial Aid Analyst & was selling mixtapes on the side. I have always loved hip hop and really enjoyed letting people hear new music first, so I was buying mixtapes from websites at whole sale and then flipping them in the streets of Indiana.
One day while searching the web I saw where Dj Whoo Kid said that djs give mixtapes away for free in New York for promotion, so I decided to email Dj Whoo Kid to see if I can get access to his catalogue to help expose him to Indiana market. I never really thought my email would be responded to, but not only was it responded to but I received an opportunity from “Q” (Founder of World Star Hip Hop) to book the official after party for Dj WHoo Kid and The Anger Management Tour 3. My Business Partner, Dj Kenny Mo, and I was successful in booking a show in Las Vegas and was able to follow the tour from Indianapolis to Las Vegas and witness firsthand how to successfully coordinate events and cater to the public when artist/ djs where involved.
I returned Indiana with a new sense of putting Indiana Hip Hop artist on the map through my grind and relationships I had built through the tour. My first stab at this was a very successful series of shows in Indianapolis called “Beauty and the Beats” where we showcased Hip Hop artist, models, fashion designers, businesses and other people in the Indiana entertainment arena. There was a total of twenty-one of these before we retired the event.
While doing the Beauty and the Beats my other business partner, St. James, and I developed a mixtape (with the help of Sir Hart) called “Stop Beefin Start Eatin” that featured sixty five Indianapolis artists and was eventually nominated for a Justo Mixtape. The success of Stop Beefin Start Eatin led to the creation of the #1 podcast for hip hop in the world called “Stopbeefinradio.com”. Stopbeefinradio has allowed my team and I not only to attend some of the biggest events in the industry such as T.I.’s going away party at Club Crucial, Nelly’s reuniting with St. Lunatics in St. Louis, and the BET Awards in California in 2010. It also allowed us to get Indiana artist the opportunity to perform on BET’s “106 and Park”.
Additional affiliations with numerous individuals including the world renowned mixtape dj - Dj Coalition with “Coast 2 Coast Dj’s” I have been able to release over 30 mixtapes and showcase Indiana talent along with the hottest artist in music. I have been considered a DJ for less than six months but I have been in this music business for over six years and believe that with my drive and determination I will put Indiana on the map and further drive artist to accomplish their goals of success in music!
